I-Sikhism kanye ne-Vegetarianism

Ukudla nakho kungahlukaniswa ngezigaba ezintathu. Isibonelo, ukudla okusha kanye nemvelo kuyisibonelo se-sattva; ukudla okuthosiwe nokubabayo kuyisibonelo se-rajas, futhi ukudla okufakwe ethini, okubolile kanye neqhwa kuyisibonelo sama-tamas. Ukweqisa kokudla okusindayo nokubabayo kuholela ekuqunjelweni nasekuguleni, kuyilapho ukudla okusha, okungokwemvelo kukuvumela ukuba ugcine impilo.

Ku-Adi Granth, umbhalo ongcwele wamaSikh, kunezinkomba zokuhlatshwa kokudla. Ngakho-ke, uKabir uthi uma indawo yonke iwukubonakaliswa kukaNkulunkulu, khona-ke ukubhujiswa kwanoma yisiphi isidalwa esiphilayo noma i-microorganism kuwukugxambukela kwelungelo lemvelo lokuphila:

“Uma uthi uNkulunkulu uhlala kukho konke, kungani ubulala inkukhu?”

“Kuwubuwula ukubulala izilwane ngonya futhi ubize ukuhlaba ngokuthi ukudla okungcwele.”

“Nibulala abaphilayo nithi isenzo senkolo. Pho, kuyini ukungamesabi uNkulunkulu?

Ngakolunye uhlangothi, abalandeli abaningi beSikhism bakholelwa ukuthi nakuba ukubulawa kwezilwane nezinyoni ngenjongo yokudla inyama yazo kufanele kugwenywe futhi kungathandeki ukubangela ukuhlupheka ezilwaneni, ukudla imifino akufanele kuguqulwe kube i-phobia noma inkolelo-mbono.

Yiqiniso, ukudla kwezilwane, ngokuvamile, kusebenza njengendlela yokwanelisa ulimi. Ngokombono wamaSikh, ukudla inyama kuphela ngenjongo “yokuzilibazisa” kuyicala. UKabir uthi, “Uzila ukudla ukuze ujabulise uNkulunkulu, kodwa ubulala izilwane ukuze uzijabulise.” Uma esho lokhu usuke esho ukuthi amaSulumane adla inyama ekupheleni kokuzila kwawo inkolo.

I-gurus yeSikhism ayizange ivume isimo lapho umuntu enqaba ukuhlatshwa, enganaki ukulawula izinkanuko nezifiso zakhe. Ukwenqaba imicabango emibi akubalulekile kangako kunokwenqatshwa kwenyama. Ngaphambi kokubiza umkhiqizo othile "ongcolile", kuyadingeka ukusula ingqondo.

I-Guru Granth Sahib iqukethe isiqephu esikhomba ubuze bezingxoxo mayelana nokuphakama kokudla kwezitshalo kunokudla kwezilwane. Kuthiwa lapho amaBrahmins aseKurukshetra eqala ukukhuthaza isidingo nokuzuza kokudliwa kwemifino kuphela, uGuru Nanak waphawula:

“Iziwula zodwa zixabana ngodaba lokuvunyelwa noma ukungavunyelwa kokudla kwenyama. Laba bantu abanalo ulwazi lweqiniso futhi abakwazi ukuzindla. Iyini inyama, ngempela? Kuyini ukudla kwezitshalo? Imuphi osindwa yisono? Laba bantu abakwazi ukuhlukanisa phakathi kokudla okuhle nalokho okuholela esonweni. Abantu bazalwa ngegazi likanina nelikayise, kodwa abayidli inhlanzi noma inyama.”

Inyama kukhulunywa ngayo emibhalweni yamaPuranas namaSikh; yayisetshenziswa ngesikhathi sama-yajnas, imihlatshelo eyenziwa ngesikhathi semishado namaholide.

Ngokufanayo, iSikhism ayinikezi impendulo ecacile embuzweni wokuthi kufanele kucatshangelwe izinhlanzi namaqanda njengokudla kwemifino.

Othisha baseSikhism abazange bakwenqabele ngokucacile ukusetshenziswa kwenyama, kodwa abazange bakukhuthaze futhi. Kungashiwo ukuthi banikeze ukukhetha kokudla kwabalandeli, kodwa kufanele kuqashelwe ukuthi iGuru Granth Sahib iqukethe iziqephu eziphikisana nokusetshenziswa kwenyama. UGuru Gobind Singh wenqabela amaKhalsa, umphakathi wamaSikh, ukuba adle inyama ye-halal elungiselelwe ngokuvumelana nemithetho yenkolo yamaSulumane. Kuze kube namuhla, inyama ayikaze ihanjiswe eSikh Guru Ka Langar (ikhishi lamahhala).

Ngokusho kwamaSikh, ukudla imifino, kanjalo, akuwona umthombo wenzuzo engokomoya futhi akuholeli ensindisweni. Ukuthuthuka okungokomoya kuncike ku-sadhana, isiyalo sezenkolo. Ngesikhathi esifanayo, abangcwele abaningi babethi ukudla kwemifino kunenzuzo ku-sadhana. Ngakho, Guru Amardas uthi:

“Abadla okungcolile bandisa ukungcola; lokhu kungcola kuba yimbangela yosizi kubantu abazicabangela bona.

Ngakho, abangcwele baseSikhism beluleka abantu endleleni engokomoya ukuba badle imifino, njengoba ngale ndlela bangagwema ukubulala izilwane nezinyoni.

Ngaphezu kwesimo sabo sengqondo esibi ngokudla inyama, amaSikh gurus abonisa isimo sengqondo esibi ngokuphelele ngazo zonke izidakamizwa, kuhlanganise notshwala, okuchazwa umphumela wawo omubi emzimbeni nasengqondweni. Umuntu, ngaphansi kwethonya lophuzo oludakayo, ulahlekelwa ingqondo futhi akakwazi ukwenza izenzo ezanele. I-Guru Granth Sahib iqukethe isitatimende esilandelayo sikaGuru Amardas:

 “Omunye unikeza iwayini, omunye uyalamukela. Iwayini limenza ahlanye, angabi nazwelo futhi angabi nangqondo. Umuntu onjalo akasakwazi ukuhlukanisa phakathi kokwakhe nomunye umuntu, uqalekisiwe nguNkulunkulu. Umuntu ophuza iwayini ukhaphela iNkosi yakhe futhi ujeziswa ekwahluleleni kukaJehova. Ungabuphuzi, ngaphansi kwanoma yiziphi izimo, lobu tshwala obunonya.”

Ku-Adi Granth, uKabir uthi:

 "Noma ngubani odla iwayini, i-bhang (umkhiqizo we-cannabis) nenhlanzi uya esihogweni, ngaphandle kokuzila ukudla kanye nemikhuba yansuku zonke."
